The landlord of a pub is offering food for a 50 paise deal to help struggling families survive the catastrophic cost of living crisis.

He said: “Last week one of the regulars came into the pub and they began to explain to one of the staff how they were really struggling,

“We gave them some free food and started talking about it. more and more people I have come to say such things.”

He said that while the pub could never commit to offering free food, Boozer knew that “we want to do something that will make a difference”.

He explained: “I saw something the other day about a friend’s electricity bill going from £90 a month to £300. I see it on Facebook all the time.

“I know a woman who is literally selling her clothes to pay for food for her children. this is madness.”

The landlord admits that his decision comes despite his own pub just breaking down and being forced to spend more than ever for his own bills.

But he added: “We are managing to get back to normal after Covid and we can pay staff salaries and keep the lights on, so we are in a position where we can help people in the area. Huh.

“That’s the least we could do,”

Punters can snap up spaghetti bolognese, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, sausage casserole and chicken curry for 50p to 80p for those holding a voucher from a local food bank.

Amazingly, these meals will be served frozen for people to take home with them.

Big-hearted Chris said: “Let’s not forget that we can’t do this unless we’re busy.

“The fact that our customers have always supported us and engaged us, makes it possible for us to do things like this.”
