Items to Buy at Costco Over Target

1. Allergy Medicine

Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst at DealNews, said that if you take a lot of medications every day, like allergy medicine, Costco should be a no-brainer, especially if you choose the store’s own Kirkland Signature brand.

“If you shop at Target, you’ll spend about $43 for 90 pills of Zyrtec; a generic is available at Target, but 300 pills will set you back about $37.

“It’s easy to see why Costco wins here.”

Meanwhile, at Target, you’re likely to pay around 50 cents per can and have to buy multiple packages to get the same amount as a pack at Costco.

3. Alcoholic Beverages

Brigitte Hodge, a retail specialist fit small businessrecommends buying alcoholic beverages at Costco, especially adding wine connoisseurs will squander the savings.

According to Delish, Costco is the largest wine retailer in America and its wine markups are half that of most stores, meaning you’ll get variety and savings.

Plus, the store sells almost every type of spirits under the Kirkland label.

Meanwhile, as other retailers have marked up their liquor prices by 25 percent to 50 percent, according to mashedCostco follows very little markups, which means stocking your summer bar for bargains.

4. Furniture

Ramhold said that if you want quality furniture for your home that’s likely to last for decades, but isn’t the cheapest, Costco once again comes out on top.

Better Buy at Target

1. Books

If you shop at Target, there’s a good chance you’ll find most of the books you’re looking for and if you have a Redcard, you’ll save 5 percent on purchases, Ramhold said.

At Costco, for comparison, she said there are often specific sets on sale rather than a selection of single titles.

If there are single titles for sale, you may find that they are a picky pick of the latest bestsellers.

This means that if you’re looking for something from a favorite author that might be a little more obscure, you probably won’t be able to find it.

2. OTC Medication

Ramhold reveals that flu meds and pain relievers are better bought at Target.

He added that although Costco may have better wholesale-purchase prices, you’re not likely to use these types of drugs much.

This means Target provides better options and avoids throwing expired meds.

3. Hot Cocoa Mixture

Ramhold swears by the Good & Gather cocoa mix at Target, which she said comes in four flavors.

These are Peppermint, Cinnamon, Sea Salt Caramel and Double Chocolate.

The expert notes that it’s a higher-end option than the Swiss Milk brand offered at Costco—she even thinks it’s better than starbucks,

4. Beauty Products

If you’re shopping for beauty products, it’s a no-brainer for Target, according to Ann McFerran, chief executive officer of Glamnetic.

She said: “Target has stepped up its game with its ever-increasing selection of boutique and clean beauty products at affordable prices.”

“Costco offers big brand name personal care items that have become household names [but] To address any concerns of aesthetic interest, Target has cornered the market to provide more exclusive and inclusive brands.”
