EASYJET customers who were targeted in the cyber attack and whose personal details were stolen could receive thousands of compensations.
In May 2020, low cost airlines 9 million subscribers revealed was hit by a “highly sophisticated” breach.
The hackers took sensitive personal information of holidaymakers, including financial details.
However, it is believed that passengers can claim compensation, which can cost thousands of pounds.
Customers who may be eligible to claim are urged to sign up at the earliest.
it comes as Easyjet Dozens of flights have been canceled since last weekend, leaving some passengers stranded abroad or at home.
The airline today alone canceled 60 flights.
Anyone who believes their information was compromised in a hack two years ago – either personal or financial – may be involved in a compensation claim.
There is no guarantee of these types of payouts and collective claims which are new in the UK have not yet been fully tested in court.
Leigh Day partner Jean Matthews said earlier today that it seemed “most likely” the law firm would begin legal proceedings “later this year.”
He added: “Leh Day is being contacted by hundreds of people who have been affected by Easyjet data breach and we currently represent approximately 4,000 customers.
“We are working with several other law firms to ensure that our clients receive full compensation for what has happened to them.”
Law firm PGMBM, which represented BA clients, also claimed a group action on the part of Easyjet Customer.
A group action is similar to a class action lawsuit in the US, where multiple people may be represented in a single claim at once.
Group Litigation Order (GLO) as it is known in the UK means that courts can treat similar claims rather than hundreds or thousands of separate individual claims.
The law firm is one of several representing the claimants and is doing so on a no-win, no-fee agreement.
This means there is no cost to sign up, but the firm will deduct any payment if the claim is successful in covering legal costs and can be up to 30%.
One Easyjet The spokesperson said last July: “BA’s announcement is a completely unrelated matter and arises out of various facts and circumstances.
“While some class action law firms continue to encourage EasyJet customers whose data has been compromised to pursue claims, this does not mean that clients have viable claims for compensation.”
The airline said it would “vigorously contest such claims”.
How do I claim compensation?
First, you have to have your personal data compromised by the breach in order to be in line for compensation.
If you were the victim of a hack, EasyJet should have emailed you between April and July 2020.
Affected EasyJet flights or holidays booked between October 17, 2019 and March 4, 2020 by customers.
You are not required to lose any money as a result of a breach of claim.
If your data was leaked in a breach then you can indulge in collective action and there are many of them.
Each GLO represents a number of contenders, but each GLO is a different matter.

- Deactivate and delete old social media profiles – Keep track of your digital footprint. If a profile was created 10 years ago, there may be personal information currently available for the fraudster’s use that you are not aware of or that you have forgotten about.
- Password protect your devices– Keep passwords complex by choosing three random words, such as roverducklemon, and add or split them with symbols, numbers and capitals.
- Install anti-virus software on your laptop and personal devices and keep it up to date – This will make it harder for fraudsters to access your data in the first place.
- Pay attention to public Wi-Fi– Fraudsters can hack or copy them. If you’re using one, avoid accessing sensitive apps like mobile banking.
- Think about your offline information too – Always redirect your post when you go home and make sure your letter or mailbox is secure.

There is no guarantee that you will get paid and the legal process for making a claim can be lengthy.
Once enough people are involved in a claim, a court must accept that it can proceed as a GLO.
Thereafter an appeal can be made on behalf of both the parties, and that too before the hearing of the case.
A claim can be settled, as in the case of a BA, before reaching the court but again there is no guarantee.
No time frame has yet been set for victims to join the action, but lawyers are encouraging people to come forward if they are affected.

Collective claims for compensation
Lawsuits that compensated multiple people are often referred to as “class actions.”
A group litigation order (GLO) is often used for such litigation in England and Wales,
Collective action has been eased under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015.
This means that courts can treat similar claims as one, rather than hundreds or thousands of separate individual claims.
There are several stages in bringing such a lawsuit, including requiring the courts to grant permission for the GLO.
Both the parties can appeal the decisions at various stages making it a lengthy process without guarantee of payment.
