Chelsea tribute to Kit-Man

Chelsea’s statement was issued after the death of kit man Eric Asidu.

It read: “It is with great sadness that Chelsea Football Club has learned of the passing of our colleague, Eric Asidu.

“Eric was a hugely popular figure in his role as Academy Kitman at our Cobham training ground, always going about his work with an infectious smile and amazing positivity. He will be sorely missed by all of us and his sudden departure. Many will feel the pain.

Known as ‘the Boss’ by players and staff alike, Eric went above and beyond to develop strong relationships with the people he worked with in the under-18 age group.

“He was a caring mentor and confidant in the dressing room for players who took their first tentative steps into full-time football while meticulously performing their daily duties.

“A humble and warm character, Eric joined Chelsea FC in April 2013, his appearance and personality proving integral to the values of our academy culture. He has been a consistent sidekick during the many great successes of our youth team over the years. “

It added: “Erik’s passion for the work, the players he supported, and his love for Chelsea were clear to all and he will be greatly missed. Eric’s family and friends at this most difficult time at Chelsea We have deepest sympathies for him.”
