A popular peanut butter product has been recalled after it was suspected of being contaminated with salmonella.

Jiff Creamy Peanut Butter and Jiff Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter have been recalled by distributors after exposure to potentially deadly bacteria.

Salmonella can cause severe food poisoning, and symptoms include fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.

According to the NHS, symptoms can flare up within hours of eating a contaminated product but in some cases it can take weeks for illness to begin.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has published an alert on its website on May 27, issuing a warning to customers.

The best position of the affected bar is before the date of 09 December 2023 and 23 October 2023.

You can also check the batch codes 134306 and 1296425 to identify the affected jars.

Customers are advised not to eat the jars, and to return them to the store from where they were purchased for a full refund.
