Tulsi Gabbard was a member of the U.S. House, representing Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District. She assumed office on January 3, 2013. She left office on January 3, 2021.

Gabbard was born in 1981 and grew up in Hawaii. In 2002, when she won election to the state House of Representatives at the age of 21, she was the youngest person elected to public office in the state's history. She served in the House until 2004.

Gabbard was a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard from 2003 to 2020. In 2020, she transitioned to an Amy Reserve unit based in California.[5] She has been deployed on two tours of duty in the Middle East.

Gabbard was elected to the Honolulu City Council in 2010. She served on the council until 2012, when she ran for and won a seat in the U.S. House.

In 2013, Gabbard was elected vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. She resigned in February 2016 to endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary.

During her time in Congress, she frequently appeared on Fox News to criticize the Barack Obama administration for "refusing" to say that the "real enemy" of the United States is "radical Islam" or "Islamic extremism".

Gabbard ended her presidential candidacy to endorse Joe Biden, and was succeeded by Kai Kahele in the House of Representatives on January 3, 2021. Since ending her presidential campaign, Gabbard has taken conservative positions on issues such as abortion and transgender rights
